Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson Both lawyers. The couple was moved to Oxfordshire when she was five where she attended an academy called the Dragon School. From the age of six Emma realized she would like to be an actress and for a number of years she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught performing and singing. She had already performed in several Stagecoach or school shows by the time she was ten years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 adaptation to J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was released in 1999. Emma was found by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions Emma and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first screen appearance came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's release in the year 2001. It also was the film that was most popular during 2001. The opening weekday and weekend sales were record-breaking. The film was praised by critics and the performances of the three young stars. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Then Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her performance in the film and was awarded her the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in an Feature Film.
